Delhi clears 5.5-km elevated corridor to streamline traffic across 12 junctions

Delhi's urban planning body has greenlit construction of a 5.5-kilometre elevated corridor designed to bypass traffic at 12 key junctions across the city. The project represents the latest step in implementing comprehensive mobility infrastructure improvements by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.

The corridor approval marks a significant milestone in a broader infrastructure modernization effort. The DMRC had prepared multimodal integration plans for 31 stations spanning its Phase I and Phase II corridors. With this latest batch of six stations receiving clearance, all 31 plans have now secured approval from the UTTIPEC, the city's primary urban planning and development authority.

The elevated corridor is intended to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion at critical intersections. By bypassing multiple junctions, the infrastructure project aims to enhance connectivity while addressing growing transportation challenges across the metropolitan region.

The approval process involved detailed scrutiny of the multimodal integration plans, which assess how different transport modes can be better coordinated within the metro system. The completion of approvals for all 31 stations clears the path for advancing implementation across both phases of the corridor development initiative.
