Delhi court denies anticipatory bail in Satya Niketan building collapse case
A Delhi court has rejected the pre-arrest bail plea of a man accused in connection with the September 6 collapse of a residential building in Satya Niketan that claimed seven lives. The judge cited concealed lease agreements and the need for further investigation into the accused's role.

Additional Sessions Judge Saurabh Partap Laler dismissed the anticipatory bail application filed by Shubham Tyagi, who allegedly co-operated a paying guest facility within the structure that collapsed. The court's decision was based on the cumulative gravity of the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the fatalities and material inconsistencies in Tyagi's bail plea.
The bench observed that Tyagi had suppressed details of his lease agreement covering the second and third floors of the building. The court further noted the existence of a parallel lease arrangement in favour of co-accused Sudhanshu, with both parties signing as witnesses on each other's deed—a structure the judge found suggestive of a deliberate arrangement requiring clarification.
In its order, the court highlighted the disclosure of a partnership in operating paying guest accommodations at the Satya Niketan location and flagged the necessity for comprehensive investigation. The judge emphasized the need to establish Tyagi's knowledge, consent, and any financial or operational involvement in running the facility.
The Satya Niketan building, located in South Delhi, collapsed without warning on September 6, killing seven occupants. The incident has triggered multiple investigations into the structural integrity of the building and the operational practices of those running commercial establishments within it. The court's decision underscores the judicial scrutiny being applied to those accused in connection with the tragedy.
