Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, prominent figures in the Cockroach Janta Party, walked free after a Special Executive Magistrate court in Delhi rejected the police's plea for extended custody. The duo had been held for seven days following their detention at the Jantar Mantar protest on October 13.
During their detention, police had sought preventive measures against the leaders while they remained in judicial custody. However, the court determined there were insufficient grounds to extend their detention and ordered their immediate release.
As a condition of their release, Das and Ranka submitted undertakings to the court committing to cease organising protests at Jantar Mantar while the site remains denotified. They also pledged not to engage in activities that could disturb public peace.
The release marks the end of the week-long detention for the two party leaders, who had been arrested in connection with the October 13 gathering at the prominent New Delhi landmark.
