Customs authorities in Delhi have seized 148 kilograms of suspected cannabis that was concealed in plastic spools and shipped under false documentation. The contraband was discovered during inspection of a consignment that had been declared as polyurethane (PU) tubes and packed across 19 cartons.
Official vigilance prompted customs officers to place the shipment on hold after they detected irregularities in the declaration. Subsequent examination revealed the illicit cannabis hidden within the plastic spools, leading to the seizure of the entire consignment.
The misdeclaration tactic represents a common smuggling method employed to evade detection at customs checkpoints. Such concealment techniques, combined with false commodity declarations, are regularly used by smuggling networks attempting to move contraband through official trade channels.
The matter is now under investigation by customs authorities, who are working to trace the origin of the shipment and identify those involved in the smuggling operation. Officials have not yet announced details regarding the intended destination or value of the seized cannabis.
