Delhi deploys major security measures ahead of planned October 10 protest

Delhi Police has invoked Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita to impose movement restrictions across designated sensitive areas of the national capital ahead of an anticipated protest scheduled for October 10. The restrictions are aimed at maintaining public order and preventing potential security breaches during the demonstration.

The security preparations have triggered significant disruptions to public transport networks. Railway authorities have cancelled 254 trains across Delhi's rail corridors, while the Delhi Metro has announced service curtailments on multiple lines. Transportation officials warned commuters to check travel schedules before heading out, with advisory notices issued across booking platforms and transit hubs.

Additional measures include selective internet shutdowns in parts of the city, a standard precaution deployed during high-security events to prevent the rapid spread of inflammatory content or coordination of disruptive activities. The Election Commission of India has bolstered physical security at its headquarters, stationing additional personnel and erecting temporary barriers around the complex.

Authorities have not publicly disclosed specific intelligence driving the heightened alert level, but police officials confirmed that precautionary measures remain proportionate to the anticipated scale of the gathering. Senior officers will oversee operations across key zones throughout the day of the protest.
