Food safety officials conducted inspections at storage and distribution facilities operated by several prominent retailers and quick-commerce platforms in Delhi, revealing significant lapses in hygiene standards and food handling practices. The violations discovered during the checks included the presence of reptiles and insects in food storage areas, alongside improper storage conditions and inadequate sanitation protocols.

The inspections covered warehouses and distribution centers run by Swiggy Instamart, Zepto, Blinkit, Zomato Hyperpure, and Reliance Retail. Among the findings were a lizard detected at a Reliance Retail facility and cockroach infestations documented at a Zepto store. These discoveries highlight potential risks to food safety in the supply chains serving Delhi's growing online grocery and food delivery markets.

Beyond the presence of animals and pests, inspectors documented improper food storage methods, temperature control failures, and insufficient sanitation measures across multiple facilities. Such violations raise concerns about the quality and safety of products being delivered to consumers through these platforms. The inspections underscore ongoing challenges in maintaining hygiene standards as e-commerce food delivery and quick-commerce services expand rapidly across India's major cities.

Authorities have typically required establishments found in violation to remediate issues and demonstrate compliance with food safety regulations. The findings may prompt stricter monitoring of third-party logistics and storage facilities operated by e-commerce platforms as regulators work to ensure consumer protection in the fast-growing online retail sector.
