Delhi gears up for BRICS summit with major civic upgrade drive
New Delhi Municipal Council has launched an extensive preparedness plan ahead of India's hosting of the 18th BRICS Summit in September 2026, encompassing road repairs, round-the-clock sanitation, and large-scale beautification across the capital.

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is executing a comprehensive civic plan to ready Delhi for the international summit, with infrastructure improvements and aesthetic enhancements forming the cornerstone of preparations. NDMC Chairman Manoj Kumar Dwivedi announced on Monday that 41 major roads have been organized into 14 administrative circles, each overseen by a designated nodal officer responsible for daily inspections and swift resolution of civic issues.
The beautification initiative includes placement of 15 floral boards at key locations, installation of nine flower fountains, and special illumination and beautification work at 17 roundabouts across the NDMC area. Multiple prominent sites have been identified for intensive cleaning and maintenance programmes to ensure the capital presents a polished appearance during the summit.
India will host the 18th BRICS Summit on 12-13 September 2026 as part of its presidency of the bloc, which comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and additional member nations. The coordinated municipal effort represents a multi-department approach to infrastructure readiness, combining routine maintenance with targeted enhancement of high-visibility areas.
