A teenage girl has been rescued from a household in Delhi where she was allegedly subjected to systematic abuse and exploitation over an extended period. According to her statement to investigators, the girl was forced to work between 18 and 20 hours daily, beginning her duties at 6 am and continuing until 2 am the following morning.
During her ordeal, the girl performed household chores including sweeping, mopping, washing dishes and general cleaning. Authorities said she was also subjected to physical violence, including being burnt with a heated rod, and was deliberately starved as a form of punishment and control.
The case has drawn attention to the persistent problem of domestic worker exploitation in Indian households, where vulnerable individuals—particularly minors from economically disadvantaged backgrounds—are trafficked into servitude. Child labour and abuse in domestic settings remains a serious concern across urban centres in the country.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the girl's captivity. The rescued minor has been handed over to child protection authorities for medical treatment and rehabilitation support.
