Delhi H1N1 cases surge past 1,700; health department urges preventive measures

Health authorities in Delhi are intensifying public health messaging as H1N1 influenza cases surge across the national capital. The Delhi government's health department confirmed that more than 2,300 Influenza-A cases have been documented so far this year, with H1N1 accounting for over 1,777 of these infections. The spike prompted the department to issue a detailed health advisory recommending preventive measures to slow transmission.

The advisory emphasises respiratory hygiene as the primary defense against the virus. Residents are instructed to cover their mouths and noses when coughing or sneezing, maintain regular hand hygiene with soap and water, and use masks in crowded settings. The health department also recommends avoiding close contact with symptomatic individuals and refraining from touching the face, particularly the eyes and nose.

Citizens experiencing symptoms including fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headaches or breathing difficulties are urged to seek medical consultation rather than self-medicating. The advisory further advises adequate fluid intake and avoiding public spitting to reduce disease transmission. Health officials stressed that early medical intervention can help manage the infection effectively and prevent complications.
