Delhi HC adjourns IYC protest plea, seeks police response by Tuesday

The Delhi High Court on Monday deferred hearing on a plea by the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) challenging the denial of permission to stage a protest at Jantar Mantar. Justice Amit Mahajan directed the Delhi Police to file their response by Tuesday, October 13.

Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma, appearing for Delhi Police, requested time to take instructions on the matter and present the force's position before the court on the adjourned date. The court accepted the submission and posted the case for hearing the following day.

Senior advocate Sidharth Luthra, representing the IYC, urged the court to hear the matter immediately, noting that the petition was filed four days prior and there was ample opportunity for police to gather necessary instructions. Despite his objections, the judge proceeded with the adjournment.

The IYC, led by national president Uday Bhanu Chib, filed the petition challenging Delhi Police's refusal to grant permission for the proposed demonstration. The protest was planned to highlight alleged irregularities in the Staff Information Report (SIR) exercise involving Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
