The Delhi High Court Wednesday agreed to hear AISA President Neha Bora's challenge to a Delhi Police notice mandating execution of a "peace" bond before a Special Executive Magistrate. Justice Subramonium Prasad deferred the hearing to October 22 at the request of Bora's legal counsel.
Bora, a prominent face in student-led protests against alleged irregularities in the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, has sought quashing of the notice and directions to restrain police from initiating coercive action against her. The student leader filed an urgent petition with the high court, which reconvened following the Dussehra vacation break.
The notice, issued by Delhi Police on October 17 under Section 126 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), directed Bora to appear before the SEM on October 19 to show cause against executing a personal bond of Rs 10,000 with one surety. The provision typically aims to maintain public peace and order.
Bora's petition challenges the legal validity of the notice and the circumstances leading to its issuance, marking the latest legal development in her ongoing activism against the electoral roll revision process.
