Delhi High Court fast-tracks hearing on Satya Niketan building collapse

The Delhi High Court on Monday permitted the accelerated listing of a public interest litigation petition related to the building collapse in Satya Niketan, South Delhi. A bench led by Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia approved the urgent hearing request after a lawyer brought the matter before the court during regular proceedings.

The collapse occurred on Sunday at a paying guest accommodation facility located near Delhi University's South Campus. The buildings came down while repair and construction work was underway. Emergency rescue and recovery operations have been ongoing at the site as authorities attempt to locate and extract residents trapped beneath the rubble.

According to reports presented before the court, the incident has resulted in at least six fatalities, with rescue teams estimating that approximately 30 students remain unaccounted for and potentially trapped under the debris. The incident has triggered significant concern regarding building safety standards and the regulation of temporary residential accommodations in the university area.
