Delhi High Court Orders Meta to Remove Objectionable Content Within 24 Hours

The Delhi High Court has taken cognizance of a woman's petition and issued directives to Meta Platforms regarding the removal of objectionable material from social media and associated websites. The court has mandated that all offensive pictures and web links be taken down within a 24-hour window.

In connection with the case, the court has also issued notices to several activists linked to the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) movement, including Sourav Das, Abhijit Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka, and Ratna Singh. These notices require the activists to respond to the allegations raised in the petition.

The matter is connected to protests held at Jantar Mantar, a prominent protest site in New Delhi. The court's intervention comes as part of ongoing litigation related to alleged defamatory or objectionable content posted during or in connection with these demonstrations.

Meta has been directed to comply with the court's order through its legal representatives, ensuring swift removal of the flagged content from its platforms. The case highlights the intersection of free expression, social media accountability, and protections against allegedly defamatory material in India's digital sphere.
