Delhi High Court Refuses Bail to Khalid, Imam in 2020 Riots Case

The Delhi High Court denied bail to Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam in their case relating to the February 2020 communal violence in the national capital. The court's decision maintains the custody status of both individuals, who have been accused of incitement during the riots that claimed dozens of lives and left hundreds injured.

While rejecting the immediate bail applications, the court indicated that the duo retained the option to file fresh bail petitions at strategic junctures in the legal proceedings. According to the court's order, Khalid and Imam may approach it either before the examination of protected witnesses or after the completion of one year from the date of their detention, whichever comes first.
