The Delhi High Court has rejected the Central Bureau of Investigation's appeal against a December 2022 bail order for former National Stock Exchange chief Chitra Ramkrishna in connection with an employee phone interception case.

The high court's decision upholds an earlier order that granted bail to Ramkrishna, who headed the NSE until her resignation in 2016. The CBI had challenged the bail grant, arguing against her release in the matter relating to alleged unauthorized interception of employee telephone communications at the exchange.
Ramkrishna has been at the centre of multiple investigations into NSE's operations, including alleged irregularities in its functioning during her tenure as chief executive officer. The phone interception case forms one of several matters being examined by investigating agencies probing alleged governance failures at the country's premier stock exchange.
The high court's rejection of the CBI's plea marks another legal setback for the investigating agency in its efforts to secure a stricter custodial position in the case. Ramkrishna has consistently maintained her innocence and contested the charges leveled against her in the various investigations.
The development comes as the NSE case continues to draw regulatory and investigative scrutiny, with multiple inquiries underway into the stock exchange's internal systems and practices during the period in question. The bail arrangement for Ramkrishna allows her to remain free pending further proceedings in the matter.
