Opposition leader Abhijeet Dipke of the Citizen Justice Party on Wednesday alleged that Delhi authorities have imposed extraordinary restrictions aimed at preventing citizens from joining protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Dipke characterised the purported measures as a deliberate attempt to stifle dissent, questioning the legitimacy of such curbs on public assembly. He pointed to the deletion of over 13 crore voters from electoral rolls as evidence of irregularities in the electoral process, describing the situation as indicative of a predetermined outcome.
The allegations come amid ongoing tensions between opposition parties and the Election Commission over voter management practices. The CJP leader's remarks suggest growing concerns within opposition circles about electoral transparency and the right to peaceful protest.
The Election Commission has not immediately responded to the allegations. The matter reflects broader debates in India regarding electoral integrity, voter registration processes, and the balance between maintaining order and protecting democratic freedoms.
