Delhi launches Yamuna ferry service ahead of Chhath festival

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the launch of a new ferry service on the Yamuna River, with the rollout scheduled to precede the Chhath festival. The initiative aims to improve river-based connectivity and provide residents with an additional transport option during the busy festival season.

The ferry vessel, designated Island Boats 40 (IB 40), is a 40-foot river cruise boat constructed by Mumbai-based Inspiration Marine Pvt Ltd. The craft features a catamaran-style hull configuration, engineered to ensure stability and safe navigation on the river's waters.

The service represents an effort by Delhi authorities to leverage the Yamuna River for public transportation while capitalizing on increased foot traffic during Chhath celebrations. The festival, which holds significant religious importance for communities across North India, traditionally draws large numbers of devotees to river ghats.

The introduction of the ferry service aligns with broader initiatives to improve transport infrastructure in the capital and utilize the city's waterways more effectively. Officials have indicated that the vessel's design and capacity make it suitable for handling passenger loads during peak festival periods.
