Delhi MCD House Adjourned Following Heated Councillor Confrontation

The Delhi Municipal Corporation house descended into chaos on Thursday as councillors from opposing benches engaged in a heated confrontation, prompting the presiding officer to adjourn the session. The clash highlighted deepening tensions between the BJP-controlled civic administration and AAP councillors in the house.

According to reports, the dispute arose during a debate on civic matters, with members from both sides trading sharp remarks and accusations. The escalating verbal volleys forced the presiding officer to intervene and suspend proceedings, with no immediate indication of when the session would resume.

The Aam Aadmi Party has since called for the BJP mayor to formally apologize for the manner in which the house was conducted. AAP representatives alleged that the mayor failed to maintain order and allow for constructive debate, instead permitting what they characterized as an uncivil atmosphere that brought disrepute to the civic institution.

The incident marks another flashpoint in the increasingly fraught relationship between the two political parties within the 272-member corporation, which has been dominated by BJP councillors. Similar disruptions in the past have hampered the passage of key civic business and highlighted the growing partisan divide in municipal governance.
