Delhi Metro extends station closures to 10 pm during CJP protest

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Saturday extended the closure of entry and exit gates at 45 metro stations until 10 pm, pushing back the original 6 pm reopening time by four hours in response to security arrangements required for a significant protest in New Delhi.

The station closures were initially implemented from 9 pm on Friday ahead of the demonstration. In a revised advisory, the DMRC indicated that security agencies would continue to assess the situation and provide further updates as circumstances develop.

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) organized the protest to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The party has accused the commission of orchestrating voter-list manipulation during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll and alleged irregularities related to Form 6, the official document used for voter registration.

The transport authority's decision to extend service restrictions reflects the scale of the demonstration and the need for coordinated security operations across the capital's metro network. Commuters were advised to plan their journeys accordingly and await further updates from the DMRC.
