Delhi Metro resumes operations at 45 stations after day-long security closure

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced late Saturday that normal operations had resumed at all stations across its network following a security-related closure that lasted throughout Friday night and most of Saturday.

Entry and exit gates at 45 stations, including major transport hubs such as Rajiv Chowk and Central Secretariat, were sealed from 9 pm Friday in anticipation of a protest scheduled to be held at Jantar Mantar by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). Interchange facilities at affected stations were also restored alongside the reopening.

The DMRC extended the closure beyond its initially planned 6 pm Saturday reopening time by four additional hours, maintaining restrictions until 10 pm to ensure security arrangements were fully established. The affected stations form a significant portion of the metro network serving central Delhi.

The transportation disruption impacted lakhs of commuters during the weekend period, with the metro system remaining partially operational during the closure. The DMRC provided no additional detail regarding the specific security threats that prompted the extended precautionary measures.
