Delhi-NCR air quality hits hazardous levels as AQI surpasses 400
The National Capital Region faces severe air pollution with Air Quality Index readings exceeding 400. Gurugram authorities have imposed construction restrictions through mid-November to combat the deteriorating conditions.

Delhi and its surrounding regions are grappling with hazardous air quality levels, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) breaching the 400 mark in recent days. The severe pollution episode has prompted regional authorities to take emergency measures to curb further deterioration of atmospheric conditions.
The Gurugram administration has announced a comprehensive ban on construction and demolition activities from November 5 to 20 in response to the crisis. The restrictions will encompass all major infrastructure projects, including road construction, highway work, flyover development, and pipeline installation across the district.
The pollution surge comes as the region enters winter months, when meteorological conditions typically trap pollutants closer to the ground. AQI readings above 400 are classified as severe, posing significant health risks to vulnerable populations including children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions.
As part of broader response measures, several organisations in Gurugram have also shifted to work-from-home arrangements to reduce vehicular emissions and limit outdoor exposure. Environmental agencies continue monitoring conditions and may implement additional restrictions if air quality fails to improve during the specified period.
