Delhi-NCR air quality plunges as toxic foam mars Yamuna surface

Air quality in the National Capital Region has deteriorated sharply, with Noida recording an Air Quality Index of 270. Meanwhile, toxic foam has been spotted floating on the Yamuna River surface at Kalindi Kunj.

Air pollution levels across Delhi and its satellite cities have reached hazardous thresholds, with multiple monitoring stations reporting severe air quality degradation. The Central Pollution Control Board recorded an AQI reading of 270 at Noida Sector-62, while Alipur in Delhi breached the 250 mark, indicating air quality in the 'very poor' category that poses significant health risks to the general population.

The deteriorating air quality comes as the Yamuna River presents an additional environmental concern. Toxic foam has been observed floating on the river's surface near Kalindi Kunj, signaling water pollution issues compounding the region's environmental challenges. The presence of such foam typically indicates high levels of pollutants and surfactants in the water.

The concurrent air and water pollution episodes underscore the mounting environmental strain on the NCR region during this period. Health authorities typically advise vulnerable populations, including children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions, to limit outdoor exposure and use air purifiers indoors when AQI levels exceed 250.
