Delhi-NCR braces for Stage 2 curbs as air quality deteriorates sharply
The Commission for Air Quality Management has decided to implement GRAP Stage 2 restrictions across Delhi and the National Capital Region after air quality index readings surpassed 300. An official order is expected to be issued shortly following a commission meeting.

Air quality in Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region has deteriorated significantly, prompting authorities to activate Stage 2 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) made the decision after the Air Quality Index (AQI) breached the 300-mark, indicating "very poor" air conditions across the region.
The commission held a meeting to finalize the implementation of Stage 2 restrictions, which are designed to curb pollution levels through targeted interventions. An official notification outlining the specific measures is anticipated to be released imminently, outlining restrictions on construction activities, industrial operations, and vehicular movement where applicable.
Stage 2 of GRAP is the second tier in a four-stage escalation protocol designed to combat seasonal air pollution that typically affects the Delhi-NCR region during autumn and winter months. The implementation of these measures aims to prevent further deterioration in air quality and protect public health as residents face increased respiratory risks from prolonged exposure to polluted air.
The decision comes as meteorological conditions and vehicular emissions combine to create hazardous air quality across the region. Authorities have urged residents to take precautionary measures and limit outdoor activities during periods of poor air quality.
