Delhi-NCR tightens emission norms: PUC mandatory for fuel from October

Delhi and its surrounding National Capital Region will implement enhanced emissions regulations starting October 1, requiring all vehicles to possess valid Pollution Under Control certificates to purchase petrol or CNG fuel. The stringent measure represents an escalation of existing environmental protocols designed to address the region's persistent air quality challenges.

The enforcement mechanism effectively prevents unregistered or non-compliant vehicles from accessing fuel, creating a powerful incentive for vehicle owners to maintain valid PUC documentation. The certificate, issued after emissions testing, confirms that vehicles meet prescribed pollution standards and are safe for road use.

The timing of the October 1 implementation coincides with the onset of winter months, when meteorological conditions in Delhi-NCR typically contribute to severe air pollution levels. The region experiences annual air quality crises during winter due to a combination of vehicular emissions, industrial pollution, construction dust, and crop burning in neighbouring states.
