Delhi-NCR to offer industrial subsidies to tackle air pollution crisis
The Indian government is preparing to launch a major incentive scheme offering substantial subsidies to manufacturing units in the National Capital Region to encourage pollution-reducing measures. The initiative will work in tandem with an existing environmental compliance programme.

New Delhi authorities are moving forward with plans to introduce a comprehensive subsidy programme targeting industries across the Delhi-NCR region, aimed at mitigating the area's persistent air quality challenges. The proposed scheme is expected to provide subsidies ranging between 30-40 percent to participating industrial units that adopt cleaner production methods and technologies.
The initiative, anticipated to be christened Swacch Pawan Neel Gagan, will operate as a complementary measure to the existing Parivartan scheme, which secured government approval in June. While Parivartan focuses on broader environmental compliance requirements, the new programme specifically incentivises industrial facilities to invest in pollution-reduction infrastructure and sustainable operational practices.
The NCR's industrial sector contributes significantly to the region's air pollution burden, with manufacturing units accounting for a substantial portion of particulate matter and gaseous emissions. By offering financial incentives, authorities hope to accelerate the transition toward cleaner technologies without imposing punitive measures that could hamper industrial productivity.
The subsidy structure is designed to make pollution-control investments financially viable for small and medium enterprises, which often lack the capital reserves to upgrade equipment independently. Officials believe the combined approach of the two schemes will create a comprehensive framework addressing both regulatory compliance and technological advancement in the region's manufacturing base.
Details regarding subsidy disbursement mechanisms, eligibility criteria, and implementation timelines are expected to be finalised in coming weeks as the government prepares for formal scheme announcement.
