Delhi NGO flags voter registration shortfall among homeless population

A New Delhi-based non-governmental organisation has written to the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer highlighting significant gaps in voter registration efforts targeting the city's homeless population. The group reported receiving only 747 enrolment applications during the special intensive revision (SIR) drive, substantially below expectations given the scale of homelessness in the capital.

According to the NGO's estimates, Delhi hosted more than 10,000 homeless voters prior to the commencement of the dedicated registration campaign. However, no comprehensive data has been made available regarding how many homeless individuals were subsequently excluded from the draft electoral roll or failed to register during the window.

The organisation's communication to electoral authorities underscores procedural lapses in reaching vulnerable voter populations, raising questions about the effectiveness of outreach mechanisms designed to ensure inclusive participation.
