The 19-year-old student was discovered in her room at the residential facility in central Delhi, according to a statement from local police. Officers were alerted to the incident on Friday and rushed to the scene in the Rajinder Nagar neighbourhood, a popular hub for students in the national capital.

Police said initial investigations indicated the student died by hanging, though a formal autopsy report is awaited. The exact circumstances leading to the incident remain under investigation. No suicide note has been reported at this stage, authorities said.

The hostel management has cooperated with police during the preliminary inquiry. Friends and fellow residents have been questioned as part of the ongoing investigation. Counsellors from the nursing college have been made available to support other students and staff members.

The incident has reignited concerns about mental health support systems for student populations, particularly those living away from home in metropolitan areas. Experts have repeatedly stressed the need for accessible counselling services and awareness programmes in educational institutions across India.

The Delhi Police have registered a case and are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the student's death.
