Delhi Police action at Bangla Sahib draws sharp rebuke from CJP

Pakistan's Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) has issued a strong condemnation of Delhi Police operations at Bangla Sahib gurdwara in New Delhi, accusing officers of entering the sacred Sikh shrine with firearms and footwear in violation of religious protocols.

According to reports, police personnel forcefully entered the premises during a protest, detaining demonstrators on the grounds. The CJP characterized the action as disrespectful to Sikh religious traditions, which prohibit the carrying of weapons and wearing of shoes within gurdwaras during worship and formal gatherings.

The Chief Justice appealed to the Sikh community to unite against what he described as government excesses, framing the incident as part of a broader pattern of state overreach. The remarks underscore growing concerns among religious leaders across South Asia regarding police conduct during public demonstrations.

The incident at Bangla Sahib, one of Delhi's most prominent Sikh places of worship, has drawn attention to tensions between law enforcement operations and respect for religious spaces during periods of civil unrest. Officials have not yet issued a formal response to the allegations.
