Delhi Police bars protest against poll chief at Jantar Mantar

The Delhi Police denied permission for a planned protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10 against the chief election commissioner, a senior law enforcement official announced Friday. Joint Commissioner of Police Nupur Prasad cited two primary reasons for the refusal: the late submission of the protest application and previous rule violations by the Cockroach Janta Party.

According to Prasad, the application was submitted by Saurav Das, Co-Convener of the Cockroach Janta Party, with insufficient advance notice. Under prescribed protocols, protest organizers must provide at least 10 days' prior intimation to authorities. "The intimation was given at very short notice," Prasad stated, indicating the timeframe fell short of regulatory standards.

The proposed demonstration aimed to demand accountability from the chief election commissioner. The police decision reflects the department's enforcement of standardized procedures governing public assemblies in the capital. The organizers have not yet announced whether they intend to challenge the denial or pursue alternative venues for their demonstration.
