Delhi Police's Joint Commissioner Madhur Verma has appealed to force personnel to exercise restraint and discipline during the upcoming protest, emphasising that professional crowd management is key to maintaining order in the national capital. "Prepare for the storm. Practise restraint. Protect the peace," Verma stated in a post on social media, underscoring that effective policing depends on handling crowds with "discipline, dignity and minimum force."
The appeal precedes a major demonstration scheduled for October 10, with organisers from the Cockroach Janta Party planning to mobilise significant numbers in the city. In preparation, the Ministry of Home Affairs has authorised deployment of approximately 23,000 personnel from Central Armed Police Forces to support Delhi Police operations between October 8 and 12, according to officials.
The demonstration has been called amid broader civic demands, with protesters seeking accountability from senior government officials. Security agencies have ramped up preparations across the capital, with police guidance emphasising de-escalation techniques and proportionate response protocols to ensure public safety while protecting citizens' right to peaceful assembly.
Varma's directive reflects established protocols for managing large gatherings in metropolitan areas, where balancing security concerns with democratic participation remains a critical operational challenge for law enforcement agencies.
