Delhi Police detained Abhi Jeet Dipke, a leader of the Campus for Justice and Peace (CJP), and Neha Bora, chief of the All India Students Association (AISA), on precautionary grounds as they prepared to participate in a 'Hoist the Tricolour' demonstration in the capital.
Following the detentions, both organizations raised concerns about the transparency of police procedures and the location where the activists were being held. The CJP alleged that Dipke had been moved to an undisclosed location without proper notification to his family or legal representatives.
The incident has drawn attention from multiple quarters of the political establishment, with members of Parliament and former state officials publicly questioning the circumstances of the detention. Parliamentary members have sought clarification from authorities regarding the legal basis for the custody and the current status of the detainees.
AISA has formally demanded the immediate release of Bora and other detained student activists, characterizing the police action as an impediment to democratic participation. The organization has called for an explanation from law enforcement agencies regarding the preventive detention measures.
The case highlights ongoing tensions between civil liberties advocates and law enforcement agencies in the national capital over protest management and detention procedures.
