Delhi Police escalates CJP leaders case to Crime Branch after custody extension

The decision to escalate the case came shortly after a court extended the two-day judicial custody of CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka on Monday. Police sources confirmed that the Inter State Cell unit of the Crime Branch would take over the investigation, signaling a more serious phase in the proceedings.

Two separate first information reports (FIRs) have been registered against the accused parties at different police stations. The Connaught Place police station FIR invokes Sections 223A (disobedience to lawful orders), 332 (house-trespass to commit an offence), and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

A second FIR filed at Parliament Street police station contains additional charges under the BNS, including Section 221 (obstruction of public servants), 115(2) and 121(1) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt), 132 (assault or criminal force against public servants), and 3(5) (common intention). These charges suggest the investigation encompasses allegations beyond simple trespass.

The transfer to the Crime Branch's specialized Inter State Cell unit indicates police believe the matter warrants enhanced investigative resources and jurisdiction. The case remains under active investigation as authorities pursue further evidence and witness statements.
