Delhi Police file cases over flag protest at Connaught Place

Delhi Police initiated legal proceedings Saturday against participants in a political demonstration held Friday at Connaught Place, citing violations of prohibitory orders issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. The orders had banned mass gatherings in the commercial district and surrounding areas.

According to police sources, crowds gathered at and around Connaught Place despite repeated announcements directing people to disperse. The unauthorized assembly prompted authorities to file the cases against demonstrators who defied the restrictions.

Hundreds of supporters and student activists associated with the Cockroach Janta Party staged a series of flash protests across Connaught Place on Friday, amid significant police deployment in the area. The demonstrations were organized to press demands for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The incident reflects ongoing tensions between political groups and law enforcement over protest permissions and gatherings in Delhi's central business district, a frequent flashpoint for demonstrations.
