Delhi Police file trespassing charges against CJP activists at Jantar Mantar

Delhi Police have filed criminal charges against Communist Party of India (Marxist)-affiliated activists Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, along with others, for allegedly trespassing into Jantar Mantar, a protest site under heightened security measures. The first information report was registered hours after the two men were detained for entering the cordoned-off demonstration area.

The activists were taken into custody after they breached the barricades surrounding Jantar Mantar and participated in protests that included raising slogans demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner. The site had been placed under strict access restrictions ahead of the demonstrations.

The trespassing charges represent an escalation in the police response to the protest activities. Authorities cited the breach of security cordons as grounds for the FIR, which also names additional individuals whose identities were not immediately specified.

The incident comes amid ongoing political tensions around electoral governance and administrative accountability in the national capital. Police authorities have not yet disclosed further details regarding the nature of charges or the anticipated course of the investigation.
