Additional Commissioner of Police Manasvi Vashishta was suspended on Tuesday, one day after participating in a protest outside Delhi Police headquarters against his proposed transfer. The suspension came as Vashishta had joined approximately 100 police personnel in demonstrating against the transfer orders affecting him and Shahdara Station House Officer Arun Kumar.
The protest was triggered after lawyers alleged that both officers had made threatening remarks toward advocates who were seeking action in connection with an assault case. The allegations raised concerns about potential intimidation of legal professionals and prompted the demonstration by police personnel opposed to the transfers.
Following the suspension, a lawyer has moved the Delhi High Court, raising objections over the alleged police remarks directed at advocates. The matter has now escalated into a legal dispute, with questions being raised about the conduct of senior police officials and their interactions with members of the legal fraternity.
The incident highlights tensions between sections of the Delhi Police force over transfer decisions and adds to concerns regarding the treatment of lawyers by law enforcement officials in the national capital. The developments are expected to draw scrutiny from both the judiciary and police administration as the matter proceeds through legal channels.
