Delhi Police orders removal of 11 social media posts on protest coverage

The Joint Commissioner of Police at the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (IFSO) issued notices Monday under the Information Technology Act, 2000, requiring the removal or restriction of access to the disputed content within three hours of notification. Police argued that the posts presented a misleading account of law enforcement activities and could incite public reaction harmful to civic peace.

The enforcement action was triggered by the arrest of a 24-year-old man accused of circulating synthetic media that falsely depicted a police officer in a compromising situation. Investigators are examining whether the circulation of fabricated content was orchestrated as part of a coordinated campaign to damage the reputation of Delhi Police and sow discontent during public demonstrations.

The 11 flagged posts reportedly contained material related to police conduct during the recent protest in the national capital. Authorities have not disclosed the specific nature of the allegedly misleading content or identified the social media platform targeted by the removal notices.
