Delhi Police Removes 300 Social Media Posts Amid Capital Protests

Delhi Police is intensifying its monitoring of social media platforms to combat the spread of false information during a period of heightened protest activity in the national capital. Police sources confirmed on Monday that around 300 posts have been removed from various platforms for allegedly containing rumours or content intended to incite public unrest.

The enforcement action was prompted by recent incidents of digital manipulation. Police arrested a 24-year-old man identified as Nadeem Ahmed for allegedly using artificial intelligence tools to create and distribute a fabricated video. The doctored video purportedly showed a police officer engaging in sexual harassment of a woman journalist during protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

According to police, Ahmed circulated the deepfake video to falsely portray a police personnel in a negative light. Investigators are treating this case separately from recent allegations of sexual harassment brought by women journalists against police personnel during the same protest period.

In response to the scale of online misinformation, Delhi Police has engaged with the social media platform X to request removal of objectionable and misleading content related to the ongoing protests. The police action underscores growing concerns about the weaponization of artificial intelligence and deepfake technology to spread disinformation during sensitive periods of civil unrest.
