Delhi police conducted a raid at a residential property in Shahdara and recovered 311 kilograms 970 grams of illegally stored firecrackers on Wednesday. The contraband was discovered concealed within household furniture, including inside a double bed and storage cabinets, indicating deliberate attempts to evade detection.
Authorities arrested Harshit Mittal, 26, a resident of Balbir Nagar, in connection with the seizure. Police said the suspect was operating an unauthorized firecracker distribution network from his home, motivated by quick financial gains.
The recovery comes amid heightened enforcement against illegal pyrotechnics ahead of festival season. Authorities have intensified raids across residential areas in the national capital to curb the unauthorized sale and stockpiling of firecrackers, which remain banned in many Indian cities due to air quality concerns and safety hazards.
The seized firecrackers have been confiscated, and the case is under investigation. Further details regarding the supply chain and potential buyers are being examined by law enforcement.
