Delhi Police Yet to Grant Permission for Jantar Mantar Protest
A planned demonstration at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi remains in limbo after organizers notified police but failed to secure approval. Authorities have invoked stringent provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita to restrict assemblies in the area.

Organisers of a proposed protest scheduled for October 10 at Jantar Mantar have filed formal notice with Delhi Police, but the administration has not yet granted permission for the demonstration, sources said on Tuesday.
The planned assembly comes amid heightened security restrictions in central New Delhi, where authorities have invoked Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) to regulate public gatherings. The provision allows law enforcement to restrict assemblies in specified areas on grounds of public order and safety.
Jantar Mantar has historically served as a venue for public protests and demonstrations. The current restrictions underscore ongoing tensions between civil liberties and administrative concerns in the national capital.
The denial or delay of permission has raised questions about the limits of protest rights in New Delhi. Civil society observers have been monitoring the situation as it develops. Police authorities have not publicly stated their reasons for withholding approval of the proposed assembly.
