Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Verma became the centre of a political storm on Sunday following a video that purportedly captured him assaulting a bystander during a road inspection in the Tilak Nagar area. The footage showed the minister allegedly slapping a young man who was filming the proceedings as local officials examined newly laid road surface.
The incident occurred while Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Tilak Nagar Jarnail Singh was conducting a ground inspection of the road construction work. Singh was seen manually pulling up portions of the newly laid surface and questioning its quality when the alleged assault took place. Singh subsequently shared the video on social media, intensifying calls from AAP leaders for action against the minister. Party chief Arvind Kejriwal alleged that Verma lost his composure after residents raised concerns about the construction quality.
Verma denied the allegations, asserting that the video circulated by the AAP was incomplete and lacked proper context. The minister accused Singh of attempting to extort commission from road contractors. Verma stated that Singh had initially lodged complaints about substandard construction work, prompting his visit to the site for inspection.
