Delhi releases draft electoral roll; nearly 48 lakh voters excluded

The Delhi Election Commission has released its draft electoral roll following the conclusion of a special summary revision exercise conducted between June 20 and August 17, 2026. The exercise resulted in significant changes to the voter register, with nearly 47.7 lakh electors being excluded from the existing rolls out of the capital's total voter strength of 1.45 crore.

The exclusion of such a substantial number of voters typically reflects various administrative processes, including removal of deceased electors, relocation of voters to other constituencies or states, and deletion of duplicate entries from the system.

Electors can now verify their inclusion in the draft roll through designated channels set up by the electoral authority. Those whose names appear in the exclusion list or who believe they have been incorrectly excluded have an opportunity to file objections during the prescribed period. The commission will consider all representations before finalizing the electoral roll.

This draft roll publication is a standard procedural step in electoral management. The final voter register will be prepared after the completion of the objection and correction process, ensuring that the electoral roll accurately reflects eligible voters in the national capital for future electoral exercises.
