Delhi Riots Accused Seeks Bail Modifications to Pursue Law Degree

Shadaab Ahmad, named as an accused in connection with the 2020 Delhi communal violence, has moved the Supreme Court seeking modifications to his existing bail conditions to allow him to pursue an LLB degree. According to legal documents, Ahmad has requested relief from certain restrictions imposed during his release to facilitate his legal education.

The Supreme Court, while hearing the matter, declined to directly intervene in the bail conditions. Instead, the apex court instructed Ahmad to submit his application to the Karkardooma Court, the trial court handling his case, which has the jurisdiction to consider modifications to bail terms.

Bail conditions in criminal cases often include restrictions on movement, residence, and other activities. Petitioners seeking changes to these conditions must typically approach the court that originally imposed them. The referral to Karkardooma Court follows standard judicial procedure for such matters.

Ahmad is among numerous individuals arrested in connection with the February 2020 riots in northeast Delhi, which resulted in extensive violence and loss of life. The case has since moved through various stages of judicial proceedings, with several accused having sought bail relief based on different grounds.
