Delhi riots accused Sharjeel Imam granted week-long interim bail for wedding
An Additional Sessions Judge has permitted activist Sharjeel Imam to step out of custody for seven days to attend a family wedding. The interim bail order comes in connection with the 2020 Delhi communal riots case.

Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai on Wednesday approved an interim bail application filed by Sharjeel Imam, a key accused in the 2020 Delhi riots case, permitting him temporary release for seven days.
Imam sought the short-term bail to attend his cousin's wedding ceremony. The judge found merit in the plea and granted the temporary relief, allowing the activist to participate in the family event during the specified period.
Imam, who has been accused of inciting communal violence during the Delhi riots that erupted in February 2020, has been in custody in connection with the case. The interim bail is a temporary measure that requires him to return to judicial custody after the stipulated seven-day period.
The 2020 Delhi riots resulted in significant loss of life and property across parts of the city. Multiple cases were registered and numerous individuals were arrested in connection with the violence, including civil society activists, students, and those accused of playing organizational roles.
