Delhi's Air Quality Expected to Slip Into Poor Category by Wednesday

Delhi's Air Quality Index stood at 179 on Tuesday, maintaining a moderate classification that officials say is likely temporary. Meteorological and air quality monitoring agencies have issued advisories suggesting a marked decline in air conditions over the next 48 hours, with the index expected to breach the threshold into the poor category.

The anticipated shift comes as weather patterns in the region undergo seasonal changes, with forecasters pointing to reduced wind speeds and atmospheric conditions that typically trap pollutants closer to the ground during this period of the year. Such conditions are common in the pre-winter months across the Indo-Gangetic plains.

Air quality in the poor category, typically defined as an AQI between 201-300, poses health risks for vulnerable populations including children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions. Residents are expected to experience reduced visibility and may face advisories to limit outdoor activities.

The Delhi Pollution Control Committee and Indian Meteorological Department continue to monitor conditions closely. Citizens are advised to track official AQI updates and follow health guidelines issued by local authorities as the air quality outlook evolves.
