Delhi's air quality improves to 'moderate' as govt intensifies pollution fight

The national capital's AQI fell from 230 the previous day, providing relief to residents after a sustained spell of poor air conditions. The decline, though modest, represents a shift in the right direction for a city that has grappled with hazardous pollution levels during the winter months.

Environmental officials attributed the improvement to changing weather patterns, with partly cloudy skies and a slight dip in minimum temperatures aiding dispersion of pollutants. However, experts caution that such variations are typical during this season and sustained improvement requires longer-term interventions.

The government has signalled its commitment to tackling the pollution crisis, with senior officials describing the efforts as being in "war mode for clean air." Authorities have implemented a range of measures, including construction bans, vehicular restrictions, and increased enforcement against dust and stubble burning in neighbouring regions.

While Delhi's AQI improvement is noteworthy, the 'moderate' category still indicates suboptimal air quality. Health officials continue to advise vulnerable groups, including children, elderly residents, and those with respiratory conditions, to limit outdoor exposure and take necessary precautions during high-pollution episodes.
