Delhi's Air Quality Index Dips to 78 as Unseasonal Rainfall Ushers in Winter

Unusual October rainfall in the national capital has triggered a drop in air quality levels while bringing an early seasonal chill to Delhi-NCR. Meteorological authorities predict drier conditions to prevail from late October through early November.

Delhi's air quality index has fallen to 78, marking a notable shift as unseasonable rainfall swept across the national capital region. The India Meteorological Department attributed the drop in air quality to record precipitation, which has also accelerated the onset of winter weather patterns earlier than typical seasonal norms.

The moisture-laden systems bringing rainfall to Delhi-NCR have coincided with cooler temperatures, creating conditions that differ markedly from the region's usual climatic trajectory during late October. Air quality monitoring stations across the capital have recorded the dip against a backdrop of changing weather systems.

Looking ahead, the IMD has forecast a transition toward drier atmospheric conditions across Delhi-NCR from October 31 through November 1. Partly cloudy skies are expected to give way to predominantly clear conditions, potentially allowing for improved air dispersion and quality metrics in the coming days.

The shift from moisture-laden to drier conditions typically supports better air circulation patterns in the region, though the onset of winter season generally brings challenges for air quality management as temperature inversions develop. Weather officials are monitoring the transition closely as the region enters the critical winter months.
