Delhi's Air Quality Plummets to 'Very Poor' Ahead of Diwali Festival
The national capital is experiencing severe air pollution across several areas as Diwali approaches, prompting authorities to enforce Stage-III pollution control measures. The stricter curbs will remain in effect alongside additional environmental safeguards.

Delhi's air quality has deteriorated significantly, with the Air Quality Index reaching 'very poor' levels across multiple zones just ahead of the Diwali festival. Meteorological and atmospheric conditions are contributing to the accumulation of pollutants in the region, creating a public health concern for residents.
In response to the worsening air quality, authorities have activated Stage-III measures under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), a framework designed to combat severe pollution episodes. These enhanced protocols build upon existing restrictions and introduce stricter pollution-control interventions across the capital.
The Stage-III measures encompass a range of actions aimed at reducing emissions from various sources, including transport and construction activities. Authorities have emphasized the continued implementation of these curbs alongside newly introduced steps to combat air pollution during this critical period.
The timing of the pollution crisis coincides with Diwali festivities, when celebrations traditionally include fireworks and firecrackers that further degrade air quality. Citizens have been advised to take precautionary measures to protect their health and reduce outdoor activities during the period of poor air quality.
