Delhi's air quality has sharply deteriorated, with the Air Quality Index reaching 312 on Tuesday, placing the capital firmly in the 'very poor' category. The reading underscores the mounting pollution crisis facing the city as winter weather conditions trap pollutants closer to the ground.

In response to the worsening conditions, the Delhi government has implemented Stage 2 measures under the Graded Response Action Plan. These interventions include mechanised sweeping of roads, enhanced water sprinkling to suppress dust particles, increased parking fees to discourage vehicular movement, and stricter monitoring of vehicle emissions at checkpoints across the city.

Medical professionals are advising residents to take precautionary measures to protect their health. Vulnerable groups, including children, elderly persons, and those with respiratory or cardiovascular conditions, are being urged to limit outdoor exposure and consider using N95 masks when venturing outside.

Healthcare experts recommend maintaining indoor air quality through the use of air purifiers and ensuring proper ventilation in homes and workplaces. They also advise residents to monitor air quality updates regularly and avoid strenuous outdoor activities during peak pollution hours, typically in the early morning and evening.
