Delhi's Barapulla Phase-3 Flyover Set to Open, Linking Mayur Vihar to AIIMS

Delhi commuters will soon gain access to the completed Barapulla Phase-3 elevated corridor, a major infrastructure project designed to ease traffic congestion in the capital. The approximately 9-kilometre-long expressway will connect Mayur Vihar Phase-1 directly to AIIMS, eliminating the need for traffic signal stops along the route and reducing travel time significantly.

The project's inauguration is scheduled for September 29, marking completion of a key section of Delhi's expanding network of elevated corridors. Officials have prioritised the project as part of broader efforts to improve vehicular flow in the city's southern regions, where traffic congestion has become an ongoing concern for residents and daily commuters.

In a departure from conventional flyover design, the Barapulla Phase-3 corridor incorporates dedicated infrastructure for non-motorised transport. The elevated structure includes a dedicated cycling track, along with footpaths and facilities for pedestrians, making it the first of its kind among India's flyover corridors. This design reflects growing emphasis on sustainable urban mobility alongside vehicular traffic management.

The signal-free corridor is expected to benefit thousands of daily commuters travelling between Mayur Vihar and AIIMS, as well as those using connecting routes. The project's completion adds to Delhi's growing network of grade-separated infrastructure aimed at decongesting major traffic corridors across the city.
