Delhi's new protest venues hampered by access, infrastructure issues

Delhi authorities have identified three alternative venues for public protests following restrictions imposed on the use of Jantar Mantar, a historic gathering point for demonstrations in the capital. However, ground inspections reveal substantial obstacles at each proposed location that could undermine their viability as replacement sites.

Ramlila Maidan, one of the three suggested venues, suffers from waterlogged patches that render portions of the ground unsuitable for gatherings. The site's drainage infrastructure appears inadequate, particularly following the monsoon season, raising concerns about accessibility and crowd safety.

The Central Business District Ground presents equally daunting challenges, with waist-high grass covering large sections of the space. The lack of maintenance at the venue suggests infrastructure for hosting organized demonstrations remains underdeveloped.

Burari, the third proposed alternative, has been significantly barricaded with restricted entry points that could create bottlenecks for protesters and limit accessibility. The security arrangements and limited access routes pose additional practical complications for organizing large-scale public assemblies.

These infrastructure and access hurdles highlight the logistical complexities involved in relocating protest activities away from established demonstration grounds, raising questions about the feasibility of the proposed alternatives for accommodating Delhi's protest movements.
